The holiday season is officially here which means it’s time to decorate! But before you put on Bing Crosby and start opening up all of those old boxes, let’s take a couple of minutes to review best practices for holiday decorating without pests.
That’s right, even your holiday decorations can fall victim to those unwanted pests. Even worse, these pests could migrate from your decorations to other parts of your home. So keep these tips in mind when decorating for the holidays this year:
Unbox Wisely – Check boxes for signs of rodents (chew marks, holes, droppings, etc.) before bringing them inside. When it’s time to pack the decorations away after the holidays, choose strong plastic containers with tight fitting lids as opposed to cardboard boxes.
Don’t Compromise the Exterior of Your Home – When running extension cords for outside décor and when hanging wreaths on doors, make sure you aren’t creating any gaps or cracks around entry doors, garage doors and windows that rodents could sneak through.
Tend to the Firewood with Care – A crackling fireplace can create the perfect atmosphere for your decorated home. Be sure to keep firewood stacked away from the exterior of your home to avoid drawing pests near. Before you bring it inside, give it a quick check for insects.
